MST Sets a Record high Efficiency of 31% for its CPV Solar Modules

MST, a leading CPV solar systems developer and manufacturer announced today that it achieved a record high efficiency of 31% for its new solar CPV Module (solar panel).

This conversion efficiency of sunlight into electricity was achieved by using MST solar CPV (Concentrating Photovoltaic) system.

The new module is the 2nd generation of MST CPV Solar Modules and it implements a new optical Fresnel lens based on SOG (silicon-on-glass) technology with a durable anti-reflection coating fabricated by Fresnel Optics and incorporates a novel receiver technology. The module is designed to work with the three world leading triple junction solar cells producers: Spectrolab (USA), Spire (USA) and Azur Space (Germany).

The 31% (STC AM1.5d) high efficient Modules are part of the latest SC-90™ CPV system developed by MST. By using the module, sunlight is concentrated by a factor of 625 and focused onto a 1cm² triple junction solar cell made out of –III-V compounds on a germanium substrate. In contrast to conventional solar cells, the multi junction solar cell converts larger part of the solar spectrum into electricity and is much less sensitive to hot ambient than standard silicon cells.

About MST

MST is an Israeli based company, leader in the area of solar energy technology development and highly-efficient solar energy production.

MST has engaged the international renewable energy market offering it its world renowned cutting edge technology at competitive prices. The MST system is based on Concentrated Photovoltaic technology and Triple Junction solar cells working in combination with Fresnel lenses that concentrate the sun on those high-efficiency solar cells. CPV Technology is considered the world "next generation" technology in the Photo-voltaic industry with the greatest potential for lowering energy production costs.
